San Jose Earthquakes 2, New England Revolution 2 | 2018 MLS Match Recap

The San Jose Earthquakes snapped a four-game losing streak in MLS regular season play, and the New England Revolution extended their unbeaten run to five games, as they played to a 2-2 draw at Avaya Stadium on Wednesday.

The Quakes got on the board first, as their top scorer Danny Hoesen put them ahead in the 17th minute, but Diego Fagundez tied up the game for the Revolution in the 31st minute with a free kick from just outside the box that went inside the near post.

The Revs then took the lead just before halftime, as Cristian Penilla cut inside from the left flank on the counterattack and buried his shot past San Jose goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell.

Following the break, the Earthquakes tied up the match, as Hoesen scored his second of the night on a towering header from a Nick Lima cross.

Three Things

  • THE BIG PICTURE: The cross-country road trip in MLS is punishing, so New England will likely be satisfied with a draw going into the World Cup break. The impact is bigger for San Jose, who had been foundering this season and may have found something to build upon with a positive result.
  • MOMENT OF THE MATCH: All four goals had something to offer, but Fagundez's cool free kick conversion was a real beauty.
  • MAN OF THE MATCH: Fagundez deserves a shout, but Hoesen scored both a go-ahead goal and an equalizer, and he's been one of the few consistent bright spots for San Jose this season, so he gets the nod.
